Tajikistan and IRENA boost renewable energy cooperation

QAZAQ GREEN. The Republic of Tajikistan and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are enhancing collaboration in the field of renewable energy. This was the focus of a recent meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Jum’a, and Gerbez Gonul, IRENA’s Director for Country Engagement and Partnerships, according to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on key areas of cooperation, with particular emphasis on the development of renewable energy sources (RES) and the joint implementation of initiatives to strengthen Tajikistan’s energy potential.
IRENA representatives outlined the Agency’s strategic vision for a global transition to green energy. As part of its roadmap, IRENA aims to raise the world’s renewable energy capacity to 11.2 terawatts (TW) by 2030.
The discussion also highlighted Tajikistan’s recent reentry into the Unified Energy System of Central Asia in June 2024 — a move seen as an important step in enhancing regional electricity trade, improving grid efficiency, and supporting long-term energy sustainability. The reintegration was recognised as mutually beneficial for all participating states.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation and moving forward with joint projects aimed at accelerating the growth of renewable energy in Tajikistan.
