Turkmenistan to host environmental conference on hydrocarbon development

QAZAQ GREEN. On 5 June, Ashgabat will host the International Scientific and Practical Conference titled "Environmental Aspects of Implementing Innovative Technologies in the Development of Hydrocarbon Fields" (TESC), organized by the Turkmen Energy Forum in cooperation with Turkmenistan’s national energy companies. Its theme, “Reliable, Sustainable, Clean Energy,” reflects a commitment to an environmentally responsible future.
The event will focus on reducing emissions during hydrocarbon production and supporting the global energy transition.
Turkmenistan is addressing environmental issues, particularly the reduction of methane and associated gas emissions from oil and gas operations. The country is also implementing large-scale environmental initiatives, including afforestation, land reclamation, and desertification control. Green belts around urban areas are regularly expanded with millions of newly planted trees.
At the international level, Turkmenistan has proposed the creation of a Regional Center for Climate Technology in Central Asia and has advanced initiatives related to the UN-Water Strategy, the Aral Sea, and the preservation of the Caspian Sea ecosystem.
The upcoming conference will bring together high-level officials from the Turkmen government, executives of national and international oil and gas companies, energy organizations, and global financial and research institutions. Delegates will include representatives from CNPC, BP, ExxonMobil, Petronas, ADNOC, ENI, Lukoil, and others, as well as major organizations such as IRENA, the International Energy Agency, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, the UN, OSCE, World Bank, ADB, and EBRD.
The event will also explore investment opportunities in renewables and the diversification of Turkmenistan’s energy sector. Panel discussions and presentations will highlight current efforts to reduce emissions and improve environmental standards in the country’s energy industry.
