Large solar plant launched in Uzbekistan

A large solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts built in Nurabad district of Samarkand region began supplying electricity to Uzbekistan's only energy system on May 24, Qazaq Green reported with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

The power plant will generate 260 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and supply more than 80,000 homes with electricity.

In addition, the power plant will save 78 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and prevent the emission of 100 thousand tons of hazardous emissions into the atmosphere. With this amount of saved gas it is possible to provide all existing households of the country with natural gas within 10 days.

It is noteworthy that while 400 workers were employed during construction, 25 new jobs were created at the plant after it became operational.

The project, worth 100 million dollars, was implemented at the expense of direct investment by the French company Total Eren.

It should be noted that the station is the second biggest solar photovoltaic station in the history of Uzbekistan on the production of electricity from renewable energy sources and the first similar solar photovoltaic station was launched in August 2021 in Karmani district of Navoi region.

Let us remind, this investment project is realized in accordance with the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan PP-4712 from May 13, 2020.

For reference: By the end of 2023 in Kattakurgan district of Samarkand region the Emirati company Masdar will launch the second largest in the region solar photovoltaic station with capacity of 220 megawatts.
