The Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company KEGOC is starting to develop a forecast model for the development of the National Power Grid, Qazaq Green reports.

The country's Ministry of Energy has approved the Forecast Balance of Power and Capacity of the Unified Electricity System of Kazakhstan (UES) until 2035. 

According to the balance, about 17.5 GW of new generating capacities are planned to be introduced to cover the perspective power consumption in UES of Kazakhstan by 2035. Their structure is represented by various technologies and locations.

"The large-scale modernization of the National Power Grid should be synchronized with the commissioning of new generating capacities, ensuring the necessary interregional and interstate power flows," the Kazakhstan Power Grid Management Company said in a statement.

The future configuration of the National Power Grid using modern Smart Grid technologies should ensure the energy security of the country by creating conditions for the integration of the western energy zone with the UES of Kazakhstan, strengthening the southern energy zone with the ability to operate, if necessary, separately fr om the unified energy system of Central Asia, the large-scale involvement of renewable energy in the energy balance of the western, eastern and southern regions of the country, including the unique wind potential of Jungar Gate and Shelek Corridor.

Recall that a new wind power plant (WPP) with capacity of 60 MW, which is being built 140 km from Almaty, is planned to be put into operation by early August this year. Power facility is erected in Enbekshikazakh district of Almaty region in so-called Shelek corridor, unique region for the development of RES potential, wh ere the average annual wind speed at an altitude of 50 meters is 7,8 m/s, the flux density is 310 W/m2.
