Two large wind farms to boost energy security in Zhambyl region

QAZAQ GREEN. Two large-scale wind power projects, totaling 2 GW in capacity, are set to be developed in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region. The announcement was made during a working meeting chaired by regional governor Yerbol Karashukeyev, according to the official website of the Akimat.
At the meeting, Deputy Akim Kanatbek Madibek presented a report outlining ongoing efforts to ensure the region’s energy security. He noted that work is currently underway across six key areas related to energy efficiency and conservation.
Zhambyl region is already home to 22 renewable energy facilities, collectively generating 571.3 megawatts (MW). These include six hydroelectric power plants, ten wind farms, and six solar power plants.
In 2023, the Shokpar Wind Power Plant with a capacity of 100 MW was commissioned in Sarysu district. Additionally, the AEC ASA solar plant in Zhambyl district expanded its output by 20 MW.
Looking ahead, two significant projects—each with a capacity of 1 GW—are slated for implementation in the coming years.
Masdar, a renewable energy company from the UAE, plans to construct a 1 GW wind farm spanning Sarysu and Talas districts. The project, valued at 742 billion tenge, is scheduled to begin construction in 2026 and be commissioned by 2029.
Meanwhile, Total Eren LLP is set to develop another 1 GW wind power facility in Moyinkum district. The company is investing approximately 1 trillion tenge and has already secured 52,000 hectares of land for the project, which is expected to become operational in 2028.
Governor Karashukeyev stressed the strategic importance of advancing the region’s energy infrastructure. He highlighted the need for uninterrupted power supply to both residents and industrial enterprises and called for increased investment in the energy sector.
