Prime Minister reviews green energy development plans for Kostanay region

QAZAQ GREEN. During his working visit to Kostanay region, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the implementation of the President’s directives announced at the fourth meeting of the National Kurultai and the Security Council. These include the development of the regional road network, the restoration of Arkalyk Airport, the modernisation of the energy supply system, and the expansion of renewable energy sources, according to the official website of the Prime Minister.

As part of the visit, the Prime Minister was briefed on plans to develop green energy in the region. Particular attention was given to a major initiative to construct a 1 GW wind power plant equipped with an energy storage system. The project envisions the installation of 165 wind turbines between 2025 and 2028, which is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 3.3 million tonnes annually.

Additionally, the construction of three more wind farms with a combined capacity of 150 MW is planned in the city of Arkalyk and across the Kostanay region. In total, six new renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1.2 GW are slated for implementation over the next two years.

These efforts will lead to a tenfold increase in electricity generation in the region. The additional capacity will meet the growing energy demands driven by industrial development. By 2028, the total capacity of alternative energy sources in Kostanay region is projected to reach 1.3 GW.
