Kazakhstan holds auction for 50 MW of small hydropower projects

QAZAQ GREEN. On June 23, 2025, Kazakhstan held a nationwide auction to select renewable energy projects focused on the construction of small hydropower plants (HPPs) with a total installed capacity of 50 MW across all zones of the Unified Power System.
Twelve companies were admitted to participate in the auction, submitting 21 price proposals during the trading session. The total volume of submitted capacity amounted to 40.07 MW.
The starting auction price for small HPP projects in 2025 was set at 41.23 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT), with submitted bids ranging from 41.23 to 39.67 KZT/kWh.
Based on the results, the following companies were selected as winners:
· Ulken Qaqpaq HPP-2 LLP – 2.5 MW at 40 KZT/kWh
· DOSTYQ-HYDRO LLP – 0.45 MW at 39.67 KZT/kWh
· TAUENERGO LLP – 3.2 MW at 39.72 KZT/kWh
· Jasyl Qýat LLP – 2 MW at 41.05 KZT/kWh
· QazQuat-AQSU LLP – 4.99 MW at 40.07 KZT/kWh
· Electrical Energy LLP – 3.93 MW at 41.18 KZT/kWh
· NEK Zharyk Energo LLP – 8.6 MW at 39.69 KZT/kWh
· Smart ReEnergy LLP – 1 MW at 40.02 KZT/kWh
· QazQuat-TURGEN LLP – 2.6 MW at 40.02 KZT/kWh
· GES CORPORATION LLP – 1 MW at 39.82 KZT/kWh
· TK-Most XXI LLP – 4.9 MW at 40.05 KZT/kWh
· Qaratal Hydro LLP – 4.9 MW at 41.17 KZT/kWh
Observers from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives "EcoJer", and the Qazaq Green Renewable Energy Sources Association confirmed the transparency of the auction process and the electronic trading system operated by KOREM JSC.
The next auction for HPP projects is scheduled for June 24, 2025, with a planned total capacity of 200 MW across all energy zones.
