Hydropower projects selected through KOREM Auction in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN.  On June 24, 2025, an auction for renewable energy sources (RES) was held across all zones of the Unified Power System of the Republic of Kazakhstan to select projects for the construction of large hydropower plants with a total planned capacity of up to 200 MW.

Two companies were admitted to participate in the auction. During the trading session, a total of three price bids were submitted, with the combined proposed capacity reaching 67.7 MW.

The starting price for the auction was set at 41.23 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT). Bids submitted during the session ranged from 41.23 to 41.21 KZT/kWh (excluding VAT).

Based on the results of the auction, the following companies were selected as winners:

LLP "KGE Hydro" – Project capacity: 27.4 MW, auction price: 41.23 KZT/kWh (excl. VAT)

LLP "KazHydroEnergo" – Project capacity: 12.9 MW, auction price: 41.22 KZT/kWh (excl. VAT)

LLP "KGE Hydro" – Project capacity: 27.4 MW, auction price: 41.21 KZT/kWh (excl. VAT)

Observers from the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Kazakhstan Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives “EcoJer”, and the Asian Development Bank's Resident Mission in Kazakhstan attended the auction. They confirmed the full transparency and reliability of the electronic trading platform operated by KOREM JSC, the official auction organizer.

The next auction round is scheduled for November 2025 and will include project selections for hydropower and bioenergy plants. KOREM JSC invites all interested stakeholders planning to develop renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan to take part in the upcoming RES auctions.
