QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan has attracted over 260 companies from 14 countries to its renewable energy sector, thanks to a transparent and competitive auction-based mechanism. Investors include companies from China, Germany, Turkey, France, the UAE, South Korea, and others, according to the Ministry of Energy.
The country is steadily establishing itself as a reliable and open platform for green energy investment. As of now, Kazakhstan operates 156 renewable energy facilities with a total installed capacity of 3,122 MW — up from 153 facilities and 3,032 MW at the end of 2024.
In 2024, total electricity generation from renewables reached 7.581 billion kWh. Wind energy accounted for the largest share at 4.513 billion kWh, followed by solar power at 1.889 billion kWh, hydropower at 1.177 billion kWh, and bioenergy at 1.58 billion kWh.
Currently, 91 additional renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 2,258 MW are in various stages of development. These include wind, solar, small hydro, and bioenergy facilities.
Looking ahead, Kazakhstan plans to hold further auctions for renewable energy projects totaling 4.6 GW in capacity by the end of 2027. Key priorities include the development of energy storage systems, enhanced B2B contract mechanisms, integration of renewables into the balancing market, support for small-scale generation, and a gradual transition away from priority dispatching.
With a systematic approach, growing international engagement, and large-scale investments, Kazakhstan is emerging as a regional leader in renewable energy development.
