Alstom plans to invest over 50 million euros in new projects in Kazakhstan

Meirzhan Yussupov, Chairman of the Kazakh Invest Management Board, and Andrew DeLeone, President of Alstom for Africa, Middle East and Central Asia discussed expansion of operations of the French company in Kazakhstan, Qazaq Green reports citing the press office of Kazakh Invest.

The main purpose of Andrew DeLeone’s visit is to obtain support from the Kazakh side for further investments in Kazakhstan. These include locomotive service centres in Rudniy, Ekibastuz and Arys. Alstom plans to invest over EUR 50 million in these projects, in addition to EUR 127 million that the Company has already invested into the economy of our country.

“For 10 years, the company has multiplied its presence in Kazakhstan several times thanks to the production capacity development. As a result, today, Alstom produces all the main components of locomotives. They include a bogie, body, traction transformer, as well as traction units. Now, we intend to reinvest by building locomotives service centers in the regions of Kazakhstan”, said Andrew DeLeone.

In addition, Alstom plans to create new jobs and continuously improve the competencies of local staff. The number of employees of the company in Kazakhstan already exceeds 1000 people.

“Since 2021, in Kazakhstan, investors have the opportunity to directly conclude an investment agreement with the Government for strategic projects. This tool provides investors with an enhanced package of preferences. The agreement provides for the stability of legislation for 25 years”, said Meirzhan Yussupov.

According to Alstom, the new agreements will create a solid platform for company’s further presence in Kazakhstan and give a positive signal to other major players in the engineering sector.

In Kazakhstan, the company is implementing two major projects - production of electric locomotives, as well as point machines and signaling equipment.
