SPP efficiency enhanced using dew, frost, and advanced computing systems
QAZAQ GREEN. Scientists at Omsk State Technical University developed a new automatic system for cleaning and orienting solar panels, according to Energia+.
Unlike existing systems, which often rely on complex mechanical parts, this new solution is simpler and more cost-effective. The solar orientation mechanism doesn't use expensive light-sensitive sensors. Instead, it automatically adjusts the panels to follow the Sun's movement based on pre-stored data about the Sun's position and daily trajectory, which is saved in the system’s computer.
The cleaning mechanism sprays washer fluid onto the panels. During warmer months, ordinary water is used to remove dust, while in winter, a special de-icing solution is applied to clear snow and ice. The system detects the optimal time for cleaning by monitoring dew formation, which helps dissolve and wash away dirt with minimal water usage. For winter conditions, an oil-free de-icing fluid was developed that cleans the panels in just 12 seconds.
This innovation boosts solar power plant efficiency by 20-95% through regular cleaning and by 30-60% by optimizing the panels’ alignment with the Sun.
