Greece announces timetable and prices for renewable energy auctions
QAZAQ GREEN. The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy released an updated timetable for renewable electricity auctions, The Balkan Energy News reports.
Four auctions will be held this year, followed by five in 2024, marking the last year for auctions. From 2025 onwards, renewable energy producers will need to compete directly in the market or sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) to sell their output.
Notable auctions include a joint auction in Q3 for wind farms and photovoltaics with a combined quota of 1.2 GW.
Another auction in Q3 is planned for PV units under 1 MW (200 MW quota), along with a special auction for wind farms (60 kW - 6 MW with 100 MW offered).
In Q4, a joint auction for wind farms and solar power plants in neighboring countries will take place.
The ministerial decree also established ceiling prices, with EUR 54 per MWh for PV and EUR 62 per MWh for wind projects.
In 2023, auction prices are set at EUR 70 per MWh for PV and EUR 83 per MWh for wind farms.
Winners of joint tenders will have a maximum of 36 months for wind projects and 30 months for PV. For special auctions, the timeline is 23 months for solar power and 24 months for wind. Projects combining renewables and storage will have 36 months for wind and 30 months for PV.
Additionally, the Greek government announced an international tender for the development of four geothermal fields in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Interested participants can submit their expressions of interest to the Ministry of Environment and Energy by October 4.
