New milestone for small wind sector: G-11 wind turbine achieves MCS Certification

QAZAQ GREEN. The Ryse Energy G-11 wind turbine has received MCS certification, marking the first small wind product to do so in over four years. Certified through the British Board of Agrément (BBA), the G-11 is currently the only MCS-certified wind turbine on the scheme, according to MCS.

The G-11 is a small-scale wind turbine with 6.5-meter glass fiber blades. It has been in operation for nearly three decades, primarily in agricultural settings, but is now being integrated into commercial and community energy projects worldwide due to its low noise output, remote monitoring capabilities, and enhanced safety features.

The certification process was challenging, as many certification bodies did not renew their accreditation after the end of the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme in 2019. However, with the support of the BBA and MCS, Ryse Energy successfully navigated the process.

The certification is expected to boost demand for the G-11, particularly among consumers replacing aging or faulty turbines. The approval also ensures that those benefiting from a feed-in tariff can retain their incentives by using a certified replacement.

Looking ahead, Ryse Energy sees a growing trend of consumers combining wind power with solar PV systems to enhance year-round energy security. With wind energy complementing solar generation in winter months, hybrid renewable solutions are expected to play a key role in the future of microgeneration.

The company is also expanding its product range to include battery storage and additional renewable technologies. A new training facility focused on small-scale wind turbines is set to launch in the UK, aiming to develop industry skills and support sector growth.
