Caspian Green Energy Corridor: Kazakhstan invites Germany to join a strategic project
QAZAQ GREEN. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan took part in a meeting of Central Asian presidents and German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, as reported by Akorda.
The President emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in the energy sector as a priority for Kazakhstan.
“As a reliable and one of the largest energy suppliers to Germany, Kazakhstan is ready to increase its oil exports to the German market. We count on the continued support of our German partners to ensure long-term and stable supplies of hydrocarbons. For the sustainable development of our nations, I believe it is crucial to enhance joint efforts in transitioning to alternative energy sources. We are ready to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation in developing hydrogen energy. Together with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan is working on a project to establish a Green Energy Corridor, aimed at delivering more renewable energy from the Caspian Sea to the European Union. We invite our German partners to consider participating in this strategic project,” said President Tokayev.
During the meeting, the President also addressed issues related to green energy corridors and the preservation of water resources. He highlighted Germany's longstanding role as a reliable partner to Central Asian countries in combating climate change, improving environmental conditions, and enhancing the efficiency of the water and energy sectors.
“Kazakhstan is currently acting as the chair of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and, in this capacity, proposes strengthening partnerships to implement projects under the Programme of Action for Assistance to the Aral Sea Basin Countries and the Regional Environmental Protection Programme for Sustainable Development in Central Asia. We believe the Fund’s work is vital for ensuring sustainable development and prosperity in our region. The initiative to establish a Regional Centre for Sustainable Agriculture is particularly timely, and I hope it will gain the support of all participants in today’s meeting,” President Tokayev said.
He also underlined the importance of developing scientific and educational ties, inviting Germany’s academic and research institutions to expand cooperation in promising fields such as artificial intelligence, digitalization, and green technologies.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also spoke at the summit. The meeting concluded with the adoption of a Joint Declaration by Heads of State of Central Asia and the Federal Chancellor of Germany.
