India accelerates bioenergy development: 45% growth expected by 2030

QAZAQ GREEN. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has highlighted India’s significant progress in bioenergy development, which plays a crucial role in ensuring affordable energy, reducing fossil fuel imports, improving environmental conditions, and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Currently, bioenergy accounts for 13% of the country’s total energy consumption. Projections indicate that by 2030, this share will grow by 45%. Moreover, 60% of bioenergy will be derived from waste and residues that do not require dedicated land use, up from less than 50% today.
India is rapidly expanding its renewable energy production, demonstrating the fastest growth rate among major global economies. By 2026, new renewable energy capacity is expected to double.
Experts emphasize that the sector’s further development will require active adoption of biofuel conversion technologies, government support, and private sector participation. India is already one of the world’s leading bioenergy producers and aims to significantly expand its use across the economy.
