Voluntary carbon certificate introduced in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN.  During the II International Green Energy Business Festival, Qazaq Green Fest in Borovoe, the launch of the first voluntary carbon certificate, known as the Qazaq Green Certificate, was announced.

The Qazaq Green RES Association, in collaboration with Caspian Commodity Exchange JSC, developed this certificate with the primary objective of enabling companies interested in reducing their carbon footprint to obtain certification at the corporate level.

"The purpose of this instrument is to allow all interested companies to certify their carbon footprint reduction efforts at the corporate level," explained the Qazaq Green RES Association.

It is worth noting that the festival's theme is "Energy Sustainability of Kazakhstan: Energy Transition." The event is attracting over 300 participants from various countries, including Kazakhstan, the USA, the UK, Italy, France, Germany, China, Japan, Uzbekistan, and Russia. Representatives from prominent companies such as KazMunaiGaz, Visor Holding, ENI, Shell, KPO, NCOC, Air Liquide, Toyota Tsusho, Chevron, Tengizchevroil, Sany, Longi, Huawei, and many others are in attendance.

"Qazaq Green Fest is the primary platform in the country for discussing the development of renewable energy. We firmly believe that renewable energy sources are the driving force behind the transformation that the electricity sector requires. The RES sector currently faces significant challenges, including ensuring the country's energy sustainability through the commissioning of new generating capacity, fostering the development of small-scale RES among the population and businesses, advancing the bilateral contracts segment, and leveraging energy storage systems. Therefore, we consider RES to be the most effective tool for achieving carbon neutrality," stated Nurlan Kapenov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qazaq Green RES Association.

The discussions held during the festival are expected to result in the creation of a Charter—a joint appeal from the renewable energy business community to the Government of Kazakhstan—regarding the future development of renewable energy sources in the country.

Huawei, along with its certified partner Photomate, serves as the festival's general partner. The sponsors of Qazaq Green Fest include Arm Wind, TotalEnergies, LONGi, Sany Renewable Energy, Jusan bank, Polymetal Eurasia, Zhanatas WPP, Jinko Solar, Allur, Bureau Veritas, Unicase Law Firm, Unigreen, Alageum Electric, Profland, and ADS Sapa.

The United Nations Development Programme in Kazakhstan, the Eurasian Development Bank, and the KAZENERGY Association have also extended their support to the festival.
