QAZAQ GREEN. According to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2023, the electricity generated by renewable energy sources (RES) reached 6.675 billion kWh, or 5.92% of the total electricity production.

Currently, there are 147 RES facilities (over 100 kW) operating in the country with a total installed capacity of 2,903.54 MW:

·        59 wind power plants with a capacity of 1,409.55 MW;

·        46 solar power plants with a capacity of 1,222.61 MW;

·        39 hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 269.605 MW;

·        3 biogas power plants with a capacity of 1.77 MW.

In 2023, 16 RES facilities with a total installed capacity of 495.57 MW were put into operation: 12 wind farms with a total capacity of 437.1 MW in Akmola and Zhetysu regions, 2 hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 3.7 MW in Almaty and Turkestan regions, and 2 solar power plants with a capacity of 54.77 MW in Turkestan region.

By 2027, it is planned to commission 25 RES projects with a capacity of 599.85 MW.

In recent years, significant steps have been taken to improve the investment climate in the RES sector, taking into account international best practices, as well as through the active implementation of state policy aimed at adopting systemic measures to develop RES.
