Kazakhstan to approve a five-year schedule of auctions of renewable energy sources with energy storage systems
QAZAQ GREEN. The Ministry of Energy plans to approve a five-year schedule of auctions of RES with energy storage systems (ESS). This was stated in his report by Vice Minister of Energy Zhandos Nurmaganbetov during the expanded board of the department in Astana.
«In order to fulfill the President's instructions to achieve 15% RES by 2030, it is planned to approve a 5-year schedule of RES auctions with ESS. As well as the construction of a wind farm with the ESS with large companies Masdar, Total, Acwa Power,» the Vice Minister said.
Last year, projects for the construction of renewable energy facilities were identified at auction in Kazakhstan.
«At the auction bidding for renewable energy in 2022, 10 renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 440 MW were selected, of which the wind power plant – 400 MW, the SES - 40 MW. The historically minimum price for the wind farm was obtained – 12.49 tg, less than 3 cents per 1 kWh, which is close to a world record,» Zhandos Nurmaganbetov noted.
According to the Ministry's forecast, in 2023 the volume of electricity generation by renewable energy facilities will reach 5%. By the end of 2022, this figure was 5.11 billion kWh.
Last year, 12 renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 385 MW were commissioned with a total investment of 180 billion tenge.
In November, an intergovernmental agreement was signed with France for the construction of a wind farm with storage capacity of 1 GW (Total). An agreement on principles for the construction of a 1 GW wind farm (Masdar) has been signed.
