Solar power systems installed at hospital in Turkmenistan's Yoloten

QAZAQ GREEN. The United Nations' development agency, together with Turkmenistan's Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, has completed the installation of two solar photovoltaic systems at the district hospital in the city of Yoloten, Mary province, Turkmen Portal reported.
The combined capacity of the installations is 30 kW. The equipment will supply the hospital with renewable electricity, helping to ensure the continuity of critical medical care, improve energy efficiency, and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, according to a press release from the organization.
Each solar installation is equipped with battery energy storage systems capable of providing up to 12 hours of backup power in the event of electricity outages.
The initiative marks an important step toward strengthening the resilience, environmental safety, and climate adaptation of the country's healthcare system. It also supports Turkmenistan's broader sustainable development goals and climate priorities.
The solar panels are projected to generate approximately 46 MWh of renewable electricity annually, cutting greenhouse gas emissions by around 25 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The integration of renewable energy into healthcare infrastructure serves as a clear example of how investment in green energy can simultaneously support public health, strengthen energy security, and help address climate change.
Speaking at the opening ceremony at the Yoloten district hospital, the organization's Resident Representative in Turkmenistan, Narine Sahakyan, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative, noting that reliable, clean energy is the foundation of a resilient healthcare system, and that such projects show how investment in renewable energy can advance public health and environmental sustainability while lowering the healthcare sector's carbon footprint and improving service reliability.
To ensure the project's long-term sustainability, hospital medical staff received comprehensive training in all aspects of operating and maintaining the solar photovoltaic systems, including panel cleaning.
The organization operates in 170 countries and territories, helping nations develop effective policies, build capacity, forge partnerships, strengthen institutions, and enhance resilience to sustain development outcomes.
