Record low price set following the results of auctions for the construction of small HPP in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. On June 12, 2024 auctions were held to select projects for the construction of hydroelectric power plants for the Northern and Southern zones of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan (with the exception of R.Tentek), with a total installed capacity of 10 MW, reports KOREM.
7 companies were allowed to participate in the auction, and 25 price offers were submitted by the participants during the trading session. The declared total capacity from the auction participants amounted to 35.55 MW.
In accordance with paragraph 55 of the Rules for the organization and conduct of auctions, the volume of installed capacity extraction has been increased from 10 to 13.9 MW.
The starting maximum auction price was 41.23 tenge/kWh (excluding VAT). There is a decrease in the price range of applications from 41.23 to 8 tenge/kWh (excluding VAT).
The lowest price has been set from the starting auction price for the selection of projects for the construction of small HPP - 8 tg/kWh (excluding VAT).
According to the results of the auction, the following companies were identified as winners:
· LLP «Verkhne-Talaptinskaya HPP» the installed capacity of the project is 4 MW, the auction price is 8 tg/kWh (without VAT);
· LLP «Karatal Cascade HPP» the installed capacity of the project is 9.9 MW, the auction price is 30 tenge/kWh (excluding VAT).
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, ALE «Kazakhstan Association of Regional Environmental Initiatives «EcoJer», ALE «KAZENERGY» and USAID took part as observers.
It should be noted that according to the Schedule of the auction in June this year 3 auctions were held for the construction of small HPP for all zones of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan (with the exception of the Tentek River), with a total installed capacity of 50 MW.
The next auction is scheduled for June 13, 2024 for the selection of projects for the construction of large WPP for the Northern zone of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with a total installed capacity of 100 MW.
