Kashagan, Karachaganak, RES: KMG and Eni review key areas of cooperation

QAZAQ GREEN. A meeting took place in Baku between Askhat Khasanov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), and Luca Vignati, Director of Exploration and Production of Global Natural Resources at Eni S.p.A., according to KMG's press service.
The two sides discussed cooperation within the framework of the North Caspian and Karachaganak projects. Khasanov emphasized that partners should pay particular attention to the timely implementation of projects aimed at further increasing oil production at Kashagan.
The strategic importance of the Karachaganak Expansion Project was also highlighted. The project involves the commissioning of a 6th gas reinjection compressor to maintain reservoir pressure and enhance oil recovery.
Another topic on the agenda was the construction of a Hybrid Power Plant with a total capacity of 247 MW in the Mangistau region. As previously reported, a 50 MW solar power plant (SPP) was launched in Zhanaozen in 2025 as part of this joint project. In 2025, the SPP generated 11.6 million kWh of electricity, while output for January through May of this year reached 31.2 million kWh. At full capacity, the station is expected to produce around 86 million kWh of clean electricity annually.
Construction, installation, and commissioning work on a 120 MW gas-fired power plant is currently ongoing, with commissioning scheduled for this year. Preparations for the construction of a 77 MW wind power plant are also underway.
