Vortex Bladeless is developing fundamentally new wind turbines that work on vibration

QAZAQ GREEN. The Spanish company Vortex Bladeless is working on the creation of promising installations for the production of wind energy that do not look like typical wind turbines. Ecoticias reports about it.
The new turbines can be attributed to the so-called vortex bladeless turbines. They work according to the following principle:
-
the air flow swirls around the cylindrical structure (mast);
- it oscillates under the influence of the wind;
- the mast converts mechanical energy into electrical energy using electromagnetic induction
Such designs have a number of advantages over conventional turbines:
-
simpler design, since there are no blades; lower production costs by about 53% for the same reason;
- generate electricity even at a wind speed of only 3 m/s, so they can be used in densely populated cities;
- the cost of generated electricity is 45% of the cost per kilowatt-hour of other wind turbines, especially at low and medium wind speeds;
- operate at frequencies below 20 Hz, that is, they are practically silent;
- do not pose any threat to birds or bats that could be injured
The company says Vortex bladeless turbines are currently in various stages of development, but several prototypes are already operating successfully. For example, Vortex Nano with a height of 10 cm and a power of 3 W, specially created for connection to solar batteries. The 2m high Vortex Tacoma has a power of 100W and is used in residential and agricultural businesses. The Vortex Atlantis/Grand is a larger model, also still in the prototype stage, ranging from 9 to 13 m in height and designed to produce approximately 1 kW of electricity for homes and businesses.
