Poland’s first offshore wind farm nears completion

QAZAQ GREEN.  Orlen is close to completing Poland’s first offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. Fifty of the project’s 76 turbines have already been installed at the Baltic Power site.

The Baltic Power project is being developed jointly by Orlen and Northland Power, according to Polish Radio.

The wind farm is expected to generate around 4 TWh of electricity annually, equivalent to approximately 3% of Poland’s current electricity demand.

At the same time, work is underway to integrate the offshore and onshore infrastructure into the national power grid and to prepare for initial test power transmission.

The Baltic Sea wind farm is one of the first two projects in the world to use 15 MW turbines manufactured by Vestas. The facility is located about 23 kilometers off the coast near Choczewo and Łeba.

Once completed, the wind farm will have a total installed capacity of approximately 1.2 GW and will be capable of generating up to 4 TWh of electricity per year.
