Uzbekistan launches 500 MW PV plant in Jizzakh province

QAZAQ GREEN. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of a trip to the Jizzakh province on Monday, attended the launch ceremony of new industrial and energy projects,The Tashkent Times reports.

According to the presidential press service state, 4,600 industrial enterprises were launched in the country in 2023 alone, with industrial output growth standing at 6% and products worth 656 trillion soums, US$ 52 billion manufactured.

In addition, 7 large thermal, solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 2.4 GW were connected to the grid. Through $14 billion of foreign investment, 31 power plants with a total capacity of 12 GW are being erected. This year, 2.6 GW of capacity is expected to be connected in Navoi, Bukhara, Namangan, Tashkent and Kashkadarya. In general, the share of green energy in generation will reach 30% this year.

“We are doing this to create decent life conditions for our people and ensure uninterrupted energy supply for the development of our industry. This has already become a good tradition in all provinces,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The president pressed a symbolic button and launched the construction of two complexes.

The first project is the construction of an Gallyaaral special metallurgical zone in the province, with plans to implement 7 projects worth $500 million. In particular, it is planned to launch the production of fittings, steel balls, pipes, automobile bodies and special equipment, which will create 5,000 jobs.

The second project is the construction of a solar power plant in the Farish district by the Chinese companies China Poly Group and China Electric. The $350 million 500 MW station is designed to generate 1.1 billion kWh of power annually. The first 200 MW are scheduled to be connected to the grid later this year.

More thermal, wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 1.66 GW will be built in the Sharaf-Rashidov, Farish and Gallyaaral districts in the coming years.
