Kazakhstan's ambitions for a "green" energy transformation was discussed at the BETD

QAZAQ GREEN. Within the framework of the 10th BETD Berlin Dialogue on Energy Transition (BETD), Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sungat Yessimkhanov took part in the panel session "Standards of sustainable Development in green Hydrogen", where he spoke about the measures taken by the Government of Kazakhstan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060 and decarbonization of the economy of Kazakhstan, according to Kazakhstan’s MFA.
"We understand that green hydrogen has huge potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially in high-carbon sectors such as industry, transport and energy. Given the high potential for hydrogen production, Kazakhstan is currently developing a document that will determine the future of hydrogen energy in Kazakhstan," the Vice Minister stressed out in his speech
During the bilateral talks between Sungat Yessimkhanov and the Director-General for Climate Diplomacy, Economy and of the German Foreign Ministry, Oliver Rentschler, topical issues of the bilateral climate and energy agenda were discussed, as well as the close cooperation of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan with the Office of Hydrogen Diplomacy in Astana, established in 2022 on the initiative of Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock.
Oliver Rentschler, expressing gratitude to the Government of Kazakhstan for assistance in providing oil to the Shvedt refinery, confirmed his interest in continuing its supplies. The German diplomat highlighted in a positive way Kazakhstan's practical steps towards a "green" transformation, which is due to the attractiveness of participation in large-scale "green" projects being implemented.
During the meeting with Kristina Haverkamp, Director of the DENA German Energy Agency, the Kazakh side noted the importance of strategic partnership with Germany for the energy sector of the country's economy, as well as for cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy and renewable energy sources.
As part of the visit program, the Kazakh delegation also visited the Hydrogen Coordination Office H2-Leitstelle, created to promote hydrogen policy and implement the Hydrogen Strategy of Germany, where it was familiarized in detail with the main action plan in the field of hydrogen energy.
Following the meetings, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, together with the GIZ Hydrogen Diplomacy Office in Astana, outlined plans for the nearest future.
Background: The Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) is a major international platform of the Global Energy Movement that gathers representatives of the energy community from around the world, including more than 50 ministers and secretaries of state, as well as 17,000 participants from 130 countries. This year, BETD celebrated 10 years since the creation of this mechanism. Within the framework of this platform, international cooperation, exchange of experience, networking, application of technological and energy solutions are carried out.
