Development of green aviation in Central Asia discussed in Kazakhstan

QAZAQ GREEN. Key topics surrounding sustainable aviation development and environmental protection were the focus of a recent bilateral meeting between Yerlan Nyssanbayev, Kazakhstan's Minister of Environment, and Nicolas Rallo, Director of the European and North Atlantic Bureau of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), according to the Ministry’s press service.
"The issues of sustainable aviation and environmental protection are extremely important to us, and we highly value ICAO’s role in setting global standards and fostering international collaboration," stated Minister Nyssanbayev. "We appreciate ICAO's support for environmental sustainability and for advancing Kazakhstan’s aviation industry, and we are eager to collaborate effectively on our environmental goals."
Kazakhstan is committed to implementing ICAO’s international standards to help lower the aviation industry’s carbon footprint. A key focus is Kazakhstan’s involvement in ICAO's carbon offsetting and reduction programs, which enable carbon emissions from international aviation to be compensated.
ICAO also provides Kazakhstan with technical assistance and training programs on emissions control and sustainable technology adoption. These initiatives are designed to enhance local expertise and allow Kazakhstan to integrate global best practices and standards for environmental management in aviation. The partnership includes support for research and development aimed at modernizing the country’s aviation fleet, a crucial step toward greater environmental sustainability.
Through its ICAO membership, Kazakhstan also collaborates with other member states, sharing insights and implementing best practices to reduce aviation’s carbon impact. ICAO’s support enables Kazakhstan to engage in regional projects that advance green aviation across Central Asia.
At the meeting’s conclusion, Minister Nyssanbayev expressed optimism for productive cooperation with ICAO in promoting environmental protection and sustainable aviation technologies throughout Central Asia.
