Kazakhstan and China agree on new renewable energy projects

QAZAQ GREEN. In Beijing, during President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to China, Kazakh Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov held talks with the State Energy Administration of China and senior executives of leading Chinese energy corporations, the Ministry of Energy reported.
The two sides agreed to build a 300 MW solar power plant in the Turkestan region and approved a timeline for commissioning a 160 MW combined-cycle power plant in Aktau by June 2027. An agreement was also reached with CNPC on constructing a urea complex in Aktobe. SANY confirmed the completion of a wind turbine component plant in the Zhambyl region and announced plans to develop a wind farm in Zhetisu.
The talks also addressed the development of renewable energy, gas chemistry, refinery modernisation, and the introduction of advanced technologies.
According to Minister Akkenzhenov, the agreements lay the foundation for a new framework of energy cooperation built on mutual trust and strategic vision. He noted that the projects will bring multi-billion-dollar investments, create new jobs, and accelerate Kazakhstan’s transition to low-carbon growth.
