Italian investors propose hybrid power plants for Zhetysu region

QAZAQ GREEN. Rising industrial capacity in Panfilov district of Zhetysu region and the launch of new production facilities are increasing strain on the power grid and raising concerns about potential electricity shortages. Potential solutions were discussed at a meeting between district officials and representatives of Italian alternative energy company Green Spark, according to Vestnik19.kz.
The Italian investors presented hybrid power plant technology that combines solar generation with gas-powered backup systems. During daylight hours, the facilities generate electricity from solar radiation, while at night or during unfavorable weather conditions, they automatically switch to gas generators. This approach ensures uninterrupted power supply while reducing pressure on existing infrastructure.
Marco Castagnini, Business Development Director at Green Spark, noted that the technology is already operational in several regions across Kazakhstan. He stated that the cost of electricity produced by these systems is lower than current market rates, making the project economically viable for both industrial enterprises and residential consumers.
The presentation also showcased an AI-powered management platform. The software enables real-time monitoring of electricity consumption, loss minimization, optimized power distribution between residential and industrial users, and automated control of smart lighting and solar panels. The company aims to achieve full digitalization of energy management, from individual households to large industrial complexes.
During negotiations with Panfilov district akim Marat Sagymbek, the investors emphasized the importance of developing sustainable and reliable energy capacity, given the active economic development of the border area. Local authorities, in turn, highlighted the opportunities provided by the Special Economic Zone operating in the region, which offers tax and customs incentives for investors.
Following the discussions, both parties agreed to continue negotiations on cooperation terms and begin developing a project roadmap. The implementation of hybrid energy solutions is viewed as a key factor in ensuring stable operations for industrial facilities and supporting continued economic growth in Panfilov district.
