Kazakhstan courts investors in EV charging infrastructure at Automechanika Astana 2026

QAZAQ GREEN.   Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Energy Yerlan Akbarov addressed the opening of the 10th Automechanika Astana international exhibition, outlining the country's energy and logistics infrastructure priorities amid the global transformation of the automotive industry, Energy ministry’s press service reported.

According to the Deputy Minister, the rapid growth of the electric vehicle sector is driving demand for expanded urban charging networks and greater available electricity capacity, while the continued development of conventional transport requires high-grade motor fuels and advanced additives.

"Today, transport and energy operate as a single, integrated mechanism," Akbarov said, noting that synchronising these processes allows the ministry to manage grid loads effectively and build up energy reserves in a timely manner.

Kazakhstan's strategic geography adds further weight to the forum's significance. "Kazakhstan sits at the crossroads of Eurasia's major continental trade routes. Innovative products from foreign suppliers will directly strengthen the country's transit competitiveness," the Deputy Minister emphasised.

The exhibition brought together more than 400 companies from 23 countries, alongside European diplomatic delegations. The business programme focuses on direct B2B agreements, localisation of production, and solutions for electric vehicle maintenance. The Automechanika Academy project, aimed at retraining Kazakhstani engineers and technicians to work with energy-intensive transport, forms a practical part of the forum's agenda. Negotiations are set to continue through June 12.
