Armenia intends to triple its solar energy production by 2030

QAZAQ GREEN. Armenia plans to triple its solar energy production by 2030, aiming to generate at least 15% of the country's energy from renewable sources, according to RA Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, the Arka News Agency reported.
"Renewable energy is a key priority for Armenia. With 270 sunny days a year, solar energy can become a cornerstone of our energy strategy. Shifting to clean energy will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and cut greenhouse gas emissions, driving sustainable development," Simonyan said during discussions at the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
He emphasized the role of science and technology in optimizing Armenia's resources and minimizing climate change risks. "Advancements in these fields provide solutions to challenges such as boosting agricultural productivity and improving disaster response," Simonyan noted.
The parliament speaker also reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to lowering carbon emissions, conserving natural resources, and promoting environmental responsibility.
According to Armenia's National Statistical Committee, solar power plants produced 706.4 million kWh of electricity between January and August this year, marking a 31.3% increase. Solar energy now accounts for 11.6% of the country’s total electricity generation.
