TotalEnergies to power Google’s data centers with renewable energy

QAZAQ GREEN. TotalEnergies and Google have signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement for the delivery of 1.5 TWh of certified renewable electricity from the Montpelier solar farm in Ohio. The facility, connected to the PJM grid — the largest in the United States — is nearing completion and will supply power to Google’s data centers in the state.
The deal supports Google’s strategy to bring new carbon-free energy onto the grids hosting its infrastructure. It also aligns with TotalEnergies’ focus on developing tailored energy solutions for data centers, whose demand accounted for nearly 3% of global electricity consumption in 2024.
“Strengthening the grid with reliable, clean energy is essential for the digital infrastructure that businesses and users rely on. Our collaboration with TotalEnergies will help meet the needs of our data centers and support broader economic growth in Ohio,” said Will Conkling, Google’s Director of Clean Energy and Power.
“We are pleased to deepen our partnership with Google through this agreement to supply renewable power to their Ohio data centers. It demonstrates TotalEnergies’ ability to meet rising energy needs from major tech companies through its integrated portfolio of renewable and flexible assets,” said Stéphane Michel, President Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies.
TotalEnergies is developing a 10-GW portfolio in the United States, spanning solar, wind and battery storage projects. About 1 GW is located in the PJM market and 4 GW in Texas under ERCOT. The PPA with Google follows similar agreements signed with major companies including Data4, STMicroelectronics, Saint-Gobain, Air Liquide, Amazon, LyondellBasell, Merck, Microsoft, Orange and Sasol.
