Digitalization and AI accelerate the transition to sustainable energy systems — Siemens Report

QAZAQ GREEN. Siemens has released the Infrastructure Transition Monitor 2025, based on a global survey of 1,400 executives and expert interviews. The study provides a comprehensive view of global infrastructure transformation, focusing on three main areas: the evolution of energy infrastructure enabled by digital technologies, building decarbonization, and industrial sustainability.
The report highlights substantial progress since 2023 in renewable energy deployment, energy storage, and energy independence. Ensuring resilient energy supply has become a top government priority, with digitalization, AI, and regional grid interconnections essential for managing increasing shares of renewables and rising electric vehicle demand.
Electrification is central to decarbonization, but grid modernization is critical to handle rising demand and system complexity. Grid software, digital twins, and AI are now indispensable for real-time visibility and flexibility. Regulatory constraints and outdated market designs hinder progress, while flexibility markets and strategic government-business collaboration demonstrate potential for effective energy management.
In buildings, digitalization and autonomous systems allow for demand forecasting, real-time optimization, and cost reduction. In industry, electrification, AI, and digital twins improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Policy uncertainty remains a key barrier, slowing investment in low-carbon technologies.
The report underscores that autonomous grids, flexible markets, and digitalization are becoming essential for building resilient, intelligent, and sustainable infrastructure.
