Microsoft signs clean energy deal with community benefits in Spain

QAZAQ GREEN.  Zelestra has announced a collaboration with Microsoft and the nonprofit ECODES to support the development of new solar capacity in Aragón, Spain, alongside investments in local social and environmental initiatives.

Microsoft has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement for the output of Zelestra’s Escatrón II and Fuendetodos II solar projects in Zaragoza, which are now under construction. The two projects will deliver a combined 95.7 MWac of clean electricity.

As part of the agreement, ECODES, an Aragón-based organization, will receive funding to manage community programs and lead grant-making efforts aimed at supporting local sustainability initiatives. The funds will be allocated to projects that expand access to sustainable infrastructure, improve environmental conditions, support economic inclusion, and strengthen community organizations working with vulnerable populations.

The collaboration is designed to ensure that the rollout of new renewable energy infrastructure in Aragón provides direct benefits to the region. It aligns with Microsoft’s clean energy and data center commitments and with ECODES’ mission to promote an inclusive, responsible, and equitable energy transition.
