Hyundai invests KRW 9 trillion won in hydrogen, solar and AI hub

QAZAQ GREEN. Hyundai Motor Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the South Korean government and Jeonbuk State to establish a large-scale innovation hub in the Saemangeum area of Gunsan City, with investments of nearly KRW 9 trillion starting in 2026.
The project involves the construction of an advanced industrial complex focused on robotics, artificial intelligence, hydrogen energy, solar power and AI-driven smart city solutions. The initiative forms part of the Group’s broader plan to invest KRW 125.2 trillion in Korea by 2030.
A central component of the development will be a high-capacity AI data center designed to scale up to 50,000 GPUs, supporting autonomous driving, robotics and smart manufacturing systems.
The investment package also includes a robotics manufacturing cluster with an annual capacity of approximately 30,000 units, a 200 MW-class polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzer plant for large-scale clean hydrogen production, and extensive solar power infrastructure. By 2035, the Group aims to build a gigawatt-scale solar portfolio to power operations sustainably.
The project envisions the creation of an AI Hydrogen Smart City integrating AI technologies, hydrogen production and robotics within a unified industrial ecosystem.
The investment is expected to generate an estimated KRW 16 trillion in economic impact and create around 71,000 jobs across direct, indirect and induced employment.
