Oman targets 100% renewable energy by 2050

QAZAQ GREEN. The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, in cooperation with Oman Vision 2040, presented an overview of the accelerating pace of renewable energy project implementation under the slogan "Today's Projects, Tomorrow's Energy," as part of the Sultanate's plan for a transition toward a more sustainable future, Al Shabiba reported.
The report highlighted key milestones in the growth of production capacity, starting with the Dhofar 1 wind energy project in 2019 with a capacity of 50 MW, followed by the Ibri 2 solar energy project in 2021 with a capacity of 500 MW, and the Manah 1 and Manah 2 solar energy projects planned for 2025 with a combined capacity of up to 1,000 MW. Plans for the period between 2027 and 2031 also include the launch of major solar, wind, and waste-to-energy projects with a total capacity of up to 10.6 GW.
Regarding national sector targets, the Sultanate aims to raise the share of renewable energy in the electricity generation mix to 30% by 2030, expanding to between 60% and 70% by 2040, and reaching a target of 90% to 100% by 2050.
