Vestas unveils new 7.2 MW wind turbine

QAZAQ GREEN. Vestas has introduced the V182-7.2 MW wind turbine, built on the company's EnVentus platform. According to Vestas, the new model is designed to increase energy output and reduce the cost of electricity generation depending on site conditions.
Compared with the V172-7.2 MW turbine, the new model can increase annual energy production (AEP) by up to 6%. It can also lower the levelized cost of energy (LCoE), depending on the characteristics of the site.
The V182-7.2 MW retains the 7.2 MW rated capacity of its predecessor but features a larger rotor. Its specific power is 277 W/m². Vestas says this can increase the turbine's capacity factor by up to 2% compared with the V172-7.2 MW and enable higher electricity generation at lower wind speeds.
The company also says the new model can increase capture prices by up to 3%. The turbine is additionally designed to help reduce grid congestion and improve the long-term economics of wind projects.
"The V182-7.2 MW is designed to deliver consistent, high-performance output that supports strong project economics and long-term bankability for our customers in an evolving energy environment, where predictability and financial resilience are critical to project success," said Felix Henseler, Vestas' Chief Technology and Operations Officer.
According to Henseler, the turbine builds on the EnVentus platform and incorporates targeted technical improvements while maintaining the reliability of the platform's validated solutions.
The V182-7.2 MW is designed for sites with low-to-medium wind speeds in Europe, Australia, South Africa, North America and South America.
The EnVentus platform is already installed in more than 25 countries and has more than 15 GW of installed capacity globally. It incorporates Vestas' technology solutions for turbines in the 2 MW, 4 MW and 9 MW power classes.
