Solar panels are being installed on the roof of a university in Bishkek

QAZAQ GREEN.  Solar photovoltaic panels are being installed on the roof of an academic building at the International University of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek. The work is supported by TBEA as part of the Green University concept, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of university infrastructure and expand the use of renewable energy sources, 24.kg reports.

Once completed, the solar installation will cover part of the university's electricity needs. It will also serve as a practical training facility for students and faculty, allowing them to study photovoltaic systems and modern green energy technologies in practice.

Urmat Moldosanov, Director of the Polytechnic College of the International University of the Kyrgyz Republic, said that the development of renewable energy requires not only the deployment of new technologies but also the training of specialists capable of working with them. According to him, Kyrgyzstan considers strengthening the scientific and technical capacity of educational and research institutions an important factor in achieving sustainable development goals.

Another step in the university's development in the clean energy field was the opening of the Kyrgyz-Chinese joint laboratory for Clean Energy and Energy Storage at the Polytechnic College on July 2, 2026.

The laboratory was established by the International University of the Kyrgyz Republic in cooperation with the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic and Xi'an Jiaotong University as part of the Belt and Road Initiative. The project received financial support from China's Ministry of Science and Technology. Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Liu Jianping attended the opening ceremony.

The laboratory is intended to serve as a platform for joint research, knowledge and technology exchange, and the study of new areas in clean energy and energy storage. One of its key objectives is to train specialists and strengthen international scientific and technical cooperation.

According to Moldosanov, the Green University concept is focused on creating a sustainable educational environment through the introduction of energy-efficient and resource-saving technologies, the use of renewable energy sources, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through autonomous power generation.

The solar panels and the joint laboratory therefore combine educational, research and practical components. Students will be able to study modern energy technologies directly within the university, while the institution will expand its use of renewable energy sources.
