Energy Ministry: eight new renewable energy facilities to be launched in Kazakhstan by end of 2024

QAZAQ GREEN. The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan has published the results for 2024.

By the end of the current year, eight new renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 163.35 MW are scheduled to be commissioned:

In the Akmola region:

  • Two wind power plants with capacities of 4.95 MW and 10 MW (LLP "Jasil jel").

In the Zhambyl region:

  • A 20 MW solar power plant (LLP "HEVEL KAZAKHSTAN").

In the Almaty region:

  • A 3 MW hydropower plant (LLP "VES Tolkyn").

In the Zhetysu region:

  • Construction of a 14.9 MW hydropower plant (LLP "Baskan Power").

In the Aktobe region:

  • A 12.5 MW wind power plant (LLP "ERG Capital Project").

In the Mangystau region:

  • A 50 MW wind power plant (LLP "Sarkylmas Kuat").

In the Atyrau region:

  • A 48 MW wind power plant (LLP "Divitel").

The Ministry of Energy plans to further expand the renewable energy sector. By 2027, auctions will be held for the implementation of projects with a total capacity exceeding 4,500 MW.

As of today, there are 148 renewable energy facilities operating in Kazakhstan with a combined installed capacity of 2,903.7 MW, including:

  • Wind power plants – 1,409.55 MW (59 facilities),
  • Solar power plants – 1,222.61 MW (46 facilities),
  • Hydropower plants – 269.785 MW (40 facilities),
  • Biogas stations – 1.77 MW (3 facilities).

"Under intergovernmental agreements, the Ministry of Energy, together with JSC 'Samruk-Kazyna' National Welfare Fund, has begun implementing renewable energy projects: in the Zhambyl region, Total Energies will construct a 1 GW wind power plant; Masdar will develop a 1 GW wind power plant in the same region; Unigreen Energy will execute a 1 GW project; and a 1 GW wind power plant will be built in the Zhetysu region. Under these projects, locally produced equipment will account for no less than 30%. Large-scale projects are expected to begin construction and installation works in 2025.

Additionally, an intergovernmental agreement has been signed with the People's Republic of China for the implementation of renewable energy projects with a total capacity of 1.8 GW. This agreement also provides the opportunity to include additional renewable energy projects within its framework," the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan stated.
