Samruk-Energy expands strategic cooperation with leading Chinese energy companies

QAZAQ GREEN. As part of a working visit to China, a delegation from Samruk-Energy JSC, led by Chairman of the Board of Directors Nurlan Kazutin and Chairman of the Management Board Kuat Maksutov, held a series of high-level meetings with major Chinese energy corporations to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
In Beijing, the delegation met with senior representatives of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), including board member Chen Guangfu, President of POWERCHINA Resources Jun Haixian, and President of POWERCHINA Sepco1 Zhang Hongmei. The parties reviewed the progress of ongoing joint projects and discussed prospects for further collaboration. Key topics included renewable energy projects totaling 810 MW in Kazakhstan, and the conversion of Almaty’s TPP-2 from coal to natural gas — a strategic initiative already under construction.
The delegation also held talks with Fang Yangshui, President of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). Discussions centered on potential cooperation in the modernization and reconstruction of existing power plants, with a focus on improving efficiency and reducing emissions. CMEC expressed strong interest in Kazakhstan’s energy sector and confirmed its readiness to participate in future projects as an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) contractor. The company is also considering joining international tenders for renewable energy projects being implemented by Samruk-Energy in partnership with entities from France, the UAE, and China.
In a separate meeting with Liu Jieshang, President of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC), the parties reviewed current and planned projects in both renewable and conventional energy sectors. A key focus was the 300 MW solar power plant under development in the Turkestan region. A power purchase agreement (PPA) for this project was signed on June 16, 2025, during the Central Asia–China Energy Forum.
The visit reinforced the strategic energy partnership between Kazakhstan and China, while outlining new directions for joint investment and project development in the region’s energy transition.
