KMG and TotalEnergies discussed prospects for co-operation

QAZAQ GREEN. During a working visit to the United States, Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG), met with Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, according to KMG’s official website.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring future partnership opportunities. Hasenov highlighted the strategic importance of the North Caspian project for Kazakhstan’s economy, emphasizing that the full-scale development of the Kashagan field—particularly its planned Phase 2B expansion—remains a top priority.
"KazMunayGas, together with its partners, is committed to increasing local content in major oil and gas projects. Strengthening in-country value remains a key strategic priority to support domestic enterprises and boost the national economy," Khassenov stated.
The talks also covered cooperation in renewable energy, leveraging TotalEnergies’ extensive expertise in the sector. A key focus was on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, with both parties highlighting the significance of the Mirny wind farm—a joint 1 GW project in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl region—as a major step toward the country's decarbonization goals under the Paris Agreement.
Additionally, the executives discussed potential collaboration on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). KMG expressed interest in learning from TotalEnergies’ experience with CCUS pilot projects, including the Northern Lights initiative in Norway.
