TotalEnergies launches a giant solar power cluster in Spain

QAZAQ GREEN. TotalEnergies has officially inaugurated its largest solar power installation in Europe, a major milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion. Located near Seville in southern Spain, the solar cluster comprises five interconnected solar farms with a combined installed capacity of 263 megawatts (MW).
The site is expected to generate 515 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable electricity annually—enough to power over 150,000 Spanish homes—and will help avoid an estimated 245,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. The majority of the electricity will be sold through long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), with the remainder offered on the wholesale market.
The project, declared of strategic interest by the Junta de Andalucía, features 400,000 bifacial solar panels equipped with trackers. Its construction provided a significant boost to the local economy, involving 14 companies—more than half of them based in Seville—and creating approximately 800 direct and indirect jobs.
“We warmly thank the Spanish authorities at both the regional and national levels for supporting this solar project that is contributing to Spain’s ambition of 80% renewables in its energy mix by 2030,” said Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President Renewables at TotalEnergies. “With our 1,700 employees in Spain, we are building a competitive Integrated Power portfolio that combines renewables and flexible gas-fired power plants to deliver clean, firm power to our customers.”
TotalEnergies is currently the fourth-largest provider of electricity, gas, and related services in Spain, serving over 2 million residential and business customers.
As of March 2025, the company has 28 GW of gross installed renewable generation capacity and aims to reach 35 GW by the end of the year. Looking ahead, TotalEnergies targets more than 100 TWh of net electricity production from renewable sources by 2030.
