Ukraine adds up to 1.1 GW of solar capacity in H1 2026

QAZAQ GREEN. Ukraine installed up to 1.1 GW of new solar capacity in the first half of 2026. According to preliminary estimates by the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine (ASEU), the country's total installed solar generation capacity reached 9.4–9.7 GW by mid-year. ASEU Board Chairman Vladyslav Sokolovskyi shared the figures in comments to pv magazine, EcoPolitic reports.
The association estimates that Ukraine could add around 2 GW of solar capacity by the end of 2026. Approximately 80% of new installations by number are expected to be facilities with a capacity of up to 1 MW, primarily designed for self-consumption.
The energy storage market is also expanding rapidly. Ukraine installed around 2.9 GWh of energy storage systems in 2025. Additional capacity installed in the first half of 2026 is estimated at 1.6–1.9 GWh, with around 3.2 GWh expected for the full year.
“Ukraine's private sector is already investing in new energy capacity despite the war. The next task is to create conditions that will allow these investments to scale up,” Sokolovskyi said.
He identified several key priorities for further market development: restoring and protecting energy infrastructure, supporting distributed generation, providing access to affordable financing and war-risk insurance, simplifying grid connections, and deepening integration with the European Union's energy market.
Distributed generation and energy storage systems are already playing an important role in supplying electricity to businesses, households and critical infrastructure across Ukraine.
