Kazakh President, CEO of Svevind Energy Group discussed "green" hydrogen production project

QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhtan’s President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the CEO of Svevind Energy Group Wolfgang Kropp, Akorda reports.

During the meeting with the management of Svevind Energy Group, the parties addressed matters related to the preparatory phases of a "green" hydrogen production project in the Mangistau region.

President was briefed on the initiation of preliminary design and survey work (Pre-FEED) as part of the Investment Agreement, signed during the visit of President of the European Council Charles Michel to Kazakhstan last year.

This ambitious project encompasses the construction and operation of a desalination plant, a 40 GW renewable energy facility (utilizing wind and solar power), and a 20 GW water electrolysis plant. The combined annual production capacity is projected to reach 2 million tonnes of green hydrogen or 11 million tonnes of green ammonia. The initial investment amount exceeds €50 billion.

Wolfgang Kropp noted that the project documentation is set to be finalized by 2026. Infrastructure construction is scheduled to start in 2027, with commissioning expected in 2032.

President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the strategic significance of the timely implementation of the Hyrasia One project for Kazakhstan. He expressed his confidence that this project will become a flagship initiative for advancing renewable energy in the country and will make a substantial contribution to achieving the goal of carbon neutrality.
