Russia to install 600 MW of energy storage systems in the south and east of the country

QAZAQ GREEN. Russia plans to implement its first energy storage projects with a total capacity of 600 MW in the south and east of the country within the coming year. This was announced by Andrei Maximov, Director of the Department for Power Industry Development at Russia's Ministry of Energy, at the 31st session of the IRENA Council.
According to Maximov, energy storage systems are being deployed across Russia to improve the reliability of renewable energy supply. The first projects, totalling 600 MW of storage capacity, are set to be implemented in the southern and eastern regions of the country within the next year.
Energy security amid the Middle East crisis was one of the key topics on the agenda. Participants discussed the need to ensure unimpeded and non-discriminatory movement of goods and services required for renewable energy development, including the supply of critical materials and raw resources.
The Russian ministry's representative also stressed the importance of guaranteeing access for all interested investors to global meteorological and climate observation data, as well as to financial instruments supporting the deployment of renewable energy.
