Enery opens largest battery energy storage facility in Central and Eastern Europe

QAZAQ GREEN. Enery has officially inaugurated the Nova Zagora Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Bulgaria — the largest standalone battery storage facility in the country and one of the most significant projects of its kind in Europe. The facility has a capacity of 150 MW / 601 MWh.
The project was developed in less than one year. The opening ceremony brought together representatives from the energy sector, financial institutions, technology providers and local authorities.
"This project demonstrates that large-scale battery storage is no longer a concept for the future — it is already transforming the energy landscape today," said Richard König, CEO and Founder of Enery.
The project was financed through a pioneering green financing structure backed by a partnership with Vitol, creating a first-of-its-kind financing model for battery storage in the region. DSK Bank (OTP Group) provided project financing, Sunotec served as EPC contractor, and Sungrow supplied the battery technology.
The Nova Zagora BESS will provide critical balancing services to the electricity grid and support the accelerated integration of renewable energy sources across Southeast Europe. "Nova Zagora is a clear signal that Southeast Europe is entering a new era of energy flexibility and resilience," said Severin Vartigov, Chief Commercial Officer and Country Manager for Bulgaria at Enery.
Enery is an independent power producer with a project pipeline of nearly 10 GW across 10 countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
