TotalEnergies to invest $444 million in new joint venture with Adani Green

QAZAQ GREEN. TotalEnergies and Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) have announced a new joint venture to develop a 1,150 MWac (1,575 MWp) solar portfolio in Khavda, Gujarat. The venture, equally owned by both companies, will focus on generating electricity through solar power, with sales agreements in place with the federal government agency, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), and through the wholesale market.
This partnership allows TotalEnergies to benefit from the liberalization of India’s electricity market, further solidifying its strategic alliance with AGEL. TotalEnergies aims to support AGEL's ambition to become a global leader in renewable energy, as the company targets 50 GW of renewable capacity by 2030. Currently, AGEL operates over 11 GW of solar and wind power in India.
AGEL will contribute existing assets to the joint venture, while TotalEnergies will invest $444 million in equity to support development. The deal is pending approval from AGEL’s shareholders and other regulatory conditions.
Khavda: a major renewable energy hub
AGEL, which is 19.75% owned by TotalEnergies, is developing the world’s largest renewable energy site in the Khavda region of Gujarat. Spanning 538 square kilometers—five times the size of Paris—the site will have a capacity of 30 GW in solar and wind energy. AGEL has already operationalized 2 GW of this capacity. Once fully developed, the Khavda site is expected to produce enough electricity to power 16 million homes in India.
