Uzbekistan to launch 16 renewable energy facilities by the end of 2025

QAZAQ GREEN. Uzbekistan is accelerating its transition to renewable energy. According to the official website of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed updated plans to expedite the country’s green energy agenda. By the end of 2025, Uzbekistan aims to commission 12 solar and 4 wind power plants, along with 12 energy storage systems.
With the population expected to surpass 41 million and the economy projected to grow to $200 billion by 2030, demand for energy will continue to rise. To meet this demand sustainably, the government plans to attract over $5 billion in investments into the development of renewable energy facilities, with a projected annual output of around 9 billion kWh. Additionally, construction will begin on 11 more facilities valued at $7.2 billion.
A key focus of the government’s strategy is reducing energy losses and improving efficiency across industries. Currently, 18 industrial sectors account for one-third of national energy consumption. For example, water management pumps alone use up 6.5 billion kWh annually. Plans are underway to modernize 12 major pump stations through the installation of solar power plants with a capacity of 75–100 MW and energy storage systems of 50 MW, which could reduce consumption by 2 billion kWh.
In the oil and gas sector, the deployment of 240 MW of solar panels and 300 MW of storage capacity is expected to generate up to 600 million kWh annually.
The meeting also addressed the transition of energy-intensive industries to autonomous energy systems and the expansion of solar technologies in the social sector, marking another step toward Uzbekistan’s long-term energy resilience and sustainability.
