Algeria commissions 400 MW of solar capacity

QAZAQ GREEN.  Algeria has commissioned two new solar power plants with a combined capacity of 400 MW, Energy and Renewable Energy Minister Mourad Adjal announced at a national energy sector conference in Algiers.

The two photovoltaic plants — a 200 MW facility in Tendla, El Meghaier province, and a 200 MW plant in El Ghrous, Biskra province — were brought online last week.

The minister said Algeria aims to add more than 1,400 MW of additional solar capacity before the end of 2026, as part of the first phase of a 3,200 MW solar programme. The broader target is 15,000 MW of renewable capacity by 2035.

Overall progress on the 3,200 MW project stands at 40%, with 22 plants currently under development.
