Turkmenistan develops public outreach strategy on renewable energy and energy efficiency

QAZAQ GREEN. On March 24, 2025, Turkmenistan took a significant step toward promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency by launching the development of a Public Outreach Strategy. The first roundtable discussion on this initiative was held at the Turkmen State Energy Institute in Mary, Turkmen Portal reported.
The event gathered representatives from Turkmenistan’s ministries, the Delegation of the European Union, the Embassy of Germany, UNDP, and EU-funded projects SECCA and RECA. Additionally, young SDG ambassadors, students, and civil society representatives participated in discussions.
- Defining the concept and importance of public outreach on renewable energy and energy efficiency
- Structuring the strategy document with input from all stakeholders
- Strengthening the role of youth and women in advancing green initiatives
Turkmenistan, boasting over 300 sunny days per year, is actively integrating renewable energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and align with the Paris Agreement. The National Strategy for Renewable Energy Development until 2030 and the Youth Roadmap for Climate Change Action 2025 provide a foundation for these efforts.
On the same day, within the framework of the EU for a Green Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Climate Action (2024–2028) project, modern IT equipment was donated to the Research and Production Center "Renewable Energy Sources" at the Turkmen State Energy Institute. This initiative, implemented by GIZ, aims to enhance research capacity and advance sustainable energy solutions in Turkmenistan.
"Raising public awareness is key to a successful energy transition. This strategy will serve as a bridge between Turkmenistan’s renewable energy ambitions and the everyday actions of its citizens," noted Dr. Caroline Milow, Project Manager of EU for a Green Turkmenistan.
The Public Outreach Strategy is expected to play a crucial role in educating citizens about renewable energy benefits, reducing carbon emissions, and strengthening Turkmenistan’s commitment to sustainable development.
