Kazakhstan and the EU discussed cooperation in energy and climate

QAZAQ GREEN. On March 5, 2025, Brussels hosted the 8th meeting of the Kazakhstan-EU Subcommittee on Energy, Transport, Environment, and Climate. The Kazakh delegation was led by Vice Minister of Energy Erlan Akkenzhenov, the Ministry of Energy’s press service reports.
Kazakhstan expressed interest in expanding cooperation with European companies in petrochemicals, advanced raw material processing, and the development of high-tech industries. To support these efforts, tax and customs incentives as well as mechanisms for large-scale investment projects have been introduced.
In the field of green energy, the EU reaffirmed its support for Kazakhstan’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. The discussions covered European investments in renewable energy, hydrogen projects, and emission reductions. Kazakhstan, in turn, emphasized the importance of green financing, technology exchange, and workforce development.
Both sides confirmed their interest in strengthening partnerships for sustainable development and advancing environmental initiatives in Central Asia.
The next 9th Kazakhstan-EU Subcommittee meeting is scheduled to take place in Astana in 2026.
